The day after his mom’s surgery, Shawn showed up before 8:00 am not knowing what to expect. He was the only one in his family able to be there with his mom during her recovery from triple by-pass surgery after a heart attack 2 days earlier. It was 11 hours after her surgery was completed, she was in the ICU, hooked up to a dozen machines, and they had not brought her out of unconsciousness.
It was all a very shocking sight for Shawn.
Not long after, the surgeon came to do his rounds with his team. He immediately introduced himself and said, “I remember you from yesterday. You’re Anne’s son Shawn.” Not only that but every time, after talking with his team, he would stop to explain to Shawn what was going on in plain language. Throughout the day, every time somebody came in the room, they were very respectful of Shawn, trying to make him comfortable with what was happening with his mom.
That whole team of healthcare providers made a traumatic event as easy as possible for Shawn, Anne, and their family!
